2018

Dr. Cornet was awarded Professor of the Year by the AAAS at the University of South Carolina for the 2017-2018 academic year.

2022–2025

Dr. Cornet presented a workshop/ lecture in 2025 to the faculty of the Department of Social Science and Economics at University of Curaçao Dr. Moises Da Costa Gomez, Willemstad, Curaçao, Dutch Caribbean. The workshop/ lecture entitled “Encouraging Academic Excellence Among First-Generation College Students” [Enkurashá éksito akadémiko bou di studiantenan universitario di promé generashon] provided the faculty with tools for effective pedagogy with first-generation college students. 

Dr. Cornet was the lead faculty on Study Abroad courses with University of South Carolina TRIO-Opportunity Scholars’ first generation college students in the Netherlands (2019) and France (2024). https://www.sc.edu/uofsc/posts/2024/07/trio-osp-paris.php

Dr. Cornet received an Innovation in Course Design Grant (2024), Inclusive Excellence Grants (2022; 2024), and the NASPA Palmetto Award for Commitment to Inclusive Excellence (2022).

2017–2018

Dr. Cornet was awarded a Faculty Fellowship with the Institute for African American Research at the University of South Carolina for the 2017–2018 academic year. The grant will fund the research for a groundbreaking book entitled: Dutch Caribbean Performativities. The grant will be used for travels, research, access, and information gathering from the Curaçaoan historical archives on film, performance arts, media, and politics. The information gathered will help me to introduce an approach to cultural studies and popular culture that is specific to the historical and contemporary developments on the island of Curaçao. This book on Curaçaoan Cultural Studies and Popular Culture will be a groundbreaking contribution to the field of cultural studies in the Caribbean.

2016–present

Dr. Cornet was awarded a Faculty Fellowship in The South Carolina Collaborative on Racial Reconciliation as a facilitator for the Welcome Table SC dialogues on race.
